MILLENNIUM INSTITUTE BIODIVERSITY OF ANTARCTIC AND SUBANTARCTIC ECOSYSTEMS – BASE

Director:

Elie Poulin: PhD Ecology and Evolution, full professor of the Department Ecological Science, Faculty of Sciences, Universidad de Chile.

Deputy director:

Julieta Orlando: PhD in Sciences, associate professor of the Department Ecological Science, Faculty of Sciences, Universidad de Chile.

About the center

BASE proposes to identify the effects of past climate changes on evolution and ASA biogeography; forecast the fate of ASA biodiversity by evaluating shifts in native species distribution and extinction risks as well as the establishment of exotic species; improve the knowledge on ASA biodiversity and implement long-term biodiversity observatories across marine, terrestrial and freshwater ecosystems; and to integrate this knowledge to contribute in decision-making about conservation practices and ASA governance.
